Healthy Heroes

Healthy Heroes summer camp educates at-risk children entering kindergarten through third grade on the importance of health and respecting their bodies.  This is accomplished through education of nutrition, general health concepts, art and physical exercise each day.

Healthy Heroes Summer Camp has become one of our premier programs for youth. Each year we collaborate with more than 25 partner agencies to serve over 500 children entering kindergarten through third grade. Activities this past year included car passenger and bicycle safety, bullying education, nutrition and healthy snacks, and dental health. By partnering with the Children’s Hospital of Illinois we were able to provide bicycle safety helmets to 518 children.

Heart Adventure

APRIL is HEALTHY HEART ADVENTURE MONTH
    
    During this month, we focus on the HEART! 4th, 5th,and 6th graders will participate in the Heart Adventure Challenge Course. This obstacle course takes students through the atrium, aorta, ventricles etc. by "scooting, crawling, and dribbling" through a large obstacle course designed to be the anatomy of the heart! They will learn about the heart and improve their cardio-vascular fitness at the same time! Don't miss this innovative learning opportunity!



Dental Health Month

FEBRUARY IS DENTAL HEALTH MONTH

In celebration of National Children's Dental Health Month, teachers may select special versions of our "Healthy Pardners" program, which emphasize dental health. Pre-school through 1st grade students will have the opportunity to practice proper brushing and flossing. In addition, they will receive a packet of dental supplies and activities to take home. Please ask for this "Dental Health" program when you call to register.



Zero Tolerance for Bullies

"Zero Tolerance for Bullies" is an outreach education anti-bullying program provided, in part, by the Youth United for Central Illinois United Way. The Hult Center reached out to 285 children. The bullying curriculum was designed based on an evidence-based bullying prevention program. Topics included identifying bullying, discussion questions, cyber bullying, and how to deal with a bully in a positive way. The students also participated in a poster contest. Congratulations to St. Vincent de Paul 4th and 5th grades, Peoria Heights Grade School 4th and 5th grades, Norwood Elementary 5th grade and Peoria Academy 4th grade for participating in our poster contest.
